Brunel University and Royal Holloway, University of London launch PARK initiative
Release date: 18 Nov 2002
Brunel University and Royal Holloway, University of London have launched a new joint initiative, PARK, to promote the universities' expertise and to allow businesses to benefit from the results of world-class research.

PARK stands for Partnership in Accessible Research and Knowledge and was launched in the evening of 14th November 2002. It proved to be an exciting opportunity to find out what the universities have to offer to businesses.

Mr David Gill, Head of Innovation and Technology at HSBC Bank and an honorary graduate of Brunel University, was the guest speaker of the evening. He talked about innovation and knowledge as the future for UK companies. Professor Steven Schwartz, Vice Chancellor of Brunel University and Professor Stephen Hill, Principal of Royal Holloway, University of London, opened and closed the evening.

It is intended that PARK will form the major platform for the west London region for promoting research and consultancy links with industry and commerce. Primary objectives of PARK are to facilitate investment in university research, accelerate knowledge transfer and support industrial collaboration. This represents one of the highest profile projects currently being undertaken with the London Development Agency (LDA) and within the Enterprise agenda of HEFCE.

VBN software underpins the project providing a 'business facing' network website integrated with an expertise database.

PARK organises networking events throughout the year around the following Special Interest Groups:

ICT and new media
Healthcare and quality of life
Industrial design and manufacturing
Environment and sustainability
