This site has two versions of each page - one is the standard page
and one is designed for greater accessibility. The appearance of the
accessible pages is likely to vary between browsers. However they have
special features which should be particularly convenient for some
users.
- Text sizes are relative, so you can take advantage of your browser
features to enlarge, or reduce the size of text. If you are using
Internet Explorer, you may like to try view->text size-> larger.
- We have made much less use of colour and try hard to ensure good
contrast between foreground and background everywhere.
- The menus are designed to function without javascript so you can
use browsers which do not support it. This means you do not have
pullrights or drop downs and you will find they are very easy to use.
- There are access keys for several important links. See here
for details.
- The left and right margins of the page have navigation links and
the main page is in the centre. However, if you have a screen reader,
you will see the main page is actually last in the order on the
page. The first link on the page is a link to skip the navigation and
go straight to the main page contents. At the end of this there is a
link back to the navigation area. These links are not normally shown
on visually oriented browsers.
You can use the following url to link to the accessible site
directly without going to the standard site first.
